Composer | Musician | educator

Cameron Coffee is a composer, Musician, and Educator based in Columbia, South Carolina. His music has been performed by 3 collegiate-level large jazz ensembles across 2 states including the world-renown Left Bank Big Band.

In his formative years, Coffee studied composition with Grammy-nominated artists such as Remy LeBouef and Chuck Owen. His unique compositions have been regarded as innovative, brilliant, and inspirational.

Though being a multi-instrumentalist, Coffee's home base is the trumpet, the instrument that started him on his musical journey. His sound is reminiscent of late great jazz musicians Lee Morgan, Chet Baker, and Roy Hargrove but contains a modern twist that separates him from the hard boppers of the past. Inspired by bands such as Snarky Puppy, the Headhunters, Silk Sonic, and the Soulquarians his own band's music (Cream 'N Sugar) exists in a nebulous region between jazz fusion and neo-soul.

As an educator, Coffee has a unique interest in making music education more accessible. This manifests in a variety of ways such as advocacy for better music education in low-income neighborhoods, to making a notable effort to seriously engage with styles that notably do not receive academic respect (hip-hop, pop, jazz, etc). Currently, Coffee teaches a Commercial Music Ensemble group as part of a graduate assistantship at the University of South Carolina..
